University of Nigeria’s Best Graduating Medical student rewarded with a sum of N10,000

A viral photo trending online shows the cheque of N10,000 given to the best Medical graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The cheque was presented to the best medical graduate on their day of Induction and swearing ceremony, which took place recently.
According to reports, the money was given to the awardee on behalf of University of Nigeria Medical association and Guaranty Trust Bank.
This generated a lot of mixed reactions as some believe the amount is too small for a medical graduate, they believe a car or a larger amount of cash should be given to the awardee not N10,000.
In a rather ironic twist of our moral decadence in the society, the best graduating student of University of Nigeria medical department was rewarded with a meagre sum of N10,000.
In a country where beauty pageant queen go home with brand new car and Big Brother Naija winner goes home with N25m and a brand new SUV, there’s little or no inducement for academic excellence.
See reactions below…
  • iyanga_girlie Imagine and a reality TV show that doesn’t even educate the youth gets 25m for rubbish… Chia this is not done na
  • porshextacey Haba …. D money small na …. Yet dey will be sponsoring 10 million for one rubish talent abi music hunt
  • graysuave Even the banner they used for the shoot are you sure it’s not almost N10000; they would have simply given her cash or check …. cc
According to one comment, the user said it’s from the association alone that the department has pledged N200k to the outgoing student.
  • sommy_okpala It was from medical students association. Our Faculty board gave her about 200k. Stop defaming University of Nigeria. We are much better than that.
