A 34 year old commercial driver, Benjamin has been arrested by the police for allegedly beating his wife to death after she returned home drunk,
The victim, Stella was said to have gone out with her friends to have fun in a bar.
Stella returned home drunk which infuriated her husband, Benjamin.
Benjamin reportedly beat her to stupor and when it appeared she was dying, she was rushed to the church for prayer.
The victim was later rushed to the hospital where she gave up.
A neighbour, Samson Adedeji stated that Benjamin always beat the victim anytime she comes home drunk.
He said,
“The wife came back home on Saturday, July 1, drunk. Her husband was angry, but people begged him to allow her sleep. He didn’t heed to their plea. He beat her up seriously. It was the following day that I was told the wife died in a hospital.”
When the suspect was questioned by the police about what transpired,
he stated,
“I think she was poisoned because she vomited. She went to drink with her friends. I didn’t beat her.”
However, a police source said the case had been transferred to the SCIID, Yaba, adding that a manhunt had been launched for the other two friends of the deceased.
