How Police nabbed 2 suspects in N700m fraud

A prosecution witness, Afonja Rahman, yesterday, told an Igbosere magistrate’s court in Lagos how the Police arrested two suspects, who allegedly defrauded a cement distributor, Alhaji Jamiu Azeez, to the tune of N700 million.

The witness, who is a brother to the victim, said he had to travel with the Police to Ile-Ife, in Osun State, to arrest the suspects in their hideout. The defendants, Adeyemi Sunday and Abosede Ahmed, were alleged to have defrauded Alhaji Azeez sometime in March 2016. They were arraigned on a two-count charge of fraud before Magistrate O. M. Ajayi.

They pleaded not guilty and were granted bail by the court. Rahman, who was led in evidence by the police prosecutor, Olajide Tubi, told the court that at the point of arrest, Sunday and his colleagues, without interrogation, started saying that they were not the people that collected money from Alhaji Azeez. He also disclosed that the Police recovered two cars and some fetish items from the hideout. The case was adjourned till July 20 for continuation of trial.
