A farmer Robert Roy aged 26, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for allegedly killing 21 cats, some of which he lured from their homes. The incident which took place over a month in 2015 in San Jose, California.
Robert pleaded guilty to 21 felony counts of animal cruelty and one count of misdemeanor battery – after he was accused of sexually abusing one of the dead animals – and one count of being under the influence.
The story of the missing cats started in September 2015 when the cats started disappearing from the Cambrian Park neighborhood in the city.
Rumors began to spread about a man trying to lure two cats into a backpack and one of the cat which escaped was later treated for a “bite that was not an animal bite, as well as a bleeding head injury”, the San Jose Mercury reported.
Residents had urged the judge to sentence Farmer to life in prison, asking supporters to sign onto ‘Justice for our CATZ.’ The 16-year sentence he received was the maximum sentence for his crimes.
