A man named Sikiru Adebayo, was brought before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating his son to death.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Duro Adekunle, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 31, at Abidogun Zone 7 area of Osogbo.
It was revealed that Adebayo beat his son Uthman Adebayo to death after the boy was said to have stolen a belt belonging to a neighbour.
He said the offence contravened Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Vol. 11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
Defence counsel, Mudashiru Balogun, prayed the court to grant his client bail on the most liberal terms. His plea was however denied.
The Magistrate, Mrs Fatimoh Sodamade, ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody pending the amendment of the charge to reflect manslaughter as indicated by the DPP.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 11 for mention.
